You may have wondered why so many of the $5 bills you get at Bare Oaks Family Naturist Park have been stamped with the words “Track this bill online: www.WheresWilly.com”.
That’s because we’re participating in a currency tracking website called Where’s Willy? (related to the US version called Where’s George?) “Willy” is a reference to The Right Honourable Sir Wilfrid Laurier, Prime Minister of Canada from 1896 to 1911, who adorns the Canadian $5 bill.
Why? Because it is fun to see just how far money travels from Bare Oaks Family Naturist Park. So far, we’ve entered the serial number of 354 $5 bills and 43 of them have been re-entered somewhere else. A few have been entered twice and one three times. So far, the furthest distance travelled by a bill is 324km to Gatineau, Québec.
Is it illegal to mark your money? Apparently not. Read this.
So try it yourself. It’s interesting. (and yes, it is also a bit geeky)
