The new WiFi system is working very well – where it is working. Unfortunately some of the equipment did not work when installed and needs to be replaced. New equipment was configured and shipped. We are told that the repairs will be done within a week or so. Until everything is working properly, the new WiFi is FREE and UNLIMITED for everyone! The new WiFi is called “Bare Oaks Family Naturist Park“. The old “Bare Oaks” and “Bare Oaks Premium” are still working to cover some of the areas of the park where the new system is not working properly. For that system, you stillRead More →
Now that we have a fibre optic internet feed, it has become clear that we must replace our WiFi network. The current system on the property has been in place for well over a decade and there have been a number of upgrades over the years. But there is no getting away from the fact that it is a limited system that was built in an ad hoc manner. With the addition of the high speed wireless connection 3 years ago and now the fibre connection, the demand for streaming entertainment and video conferencing has been steadily growing. We need a WiFi system that willRead More →
Bare Oaks now has a video library that makes available some of the movies and videos that are in our collection. It is important to note that many videos are not consistent with naturist values. Many of them include content that is misleading, inaccurate, inappropriately titillating, sexist, objectifying, and exploitative. We have included them in the library because they offer context about how naturists were and are portrayed by mainstream society – sometimes with the cooperation of naturists themselves! The video server also gives access to the live local television channels that we capture with the antenna on our tower. These are the sameRead More →
Bare Oaks is now connected to the internet via a fibre optic connection. The image is of a single ‘naked’ core of fibre optic cabling coming into our telecom closet. Yet through that wire, experiments with ‘flexible grid’ technology have shown that you get get speeds in excess of one Tbps through a single core. What does that mean? Currently, we generally measure internet speed in Mbps. Gbps are 1,000 times faster and Tbps are a further 1,000 times faster! Of course, we have not contracted for anywhere near that much speed. But it means that as demand grows, we can easily increase our service.Read More →
For many years, our internet service was so slow that if more than a dozen people were using it at the same time, it became difficult just to load a simple web page. Then for 2018 we finally managed to get decent high speed by way of a dedicated wireless connection. Suddenly it was possible for many people to watch streaming video at the same time! But as more and more people took advantage, it became obvious that the WiFi network was no longer up to the task. We upgraded a number of pieces of equipment but Beckett Circle was always slow on busy weekends.Read More →
As we announced in December, we now have a very fast high-speed internet connection. We have spent the last 3 months testing the system, fine-tuning the network, and replacing some equipment with faster hardware. While we’ve had a few outages for short periods of time, the internet has generally proven to be quite reliable and very, very fast! So we are confident enough to offer a premium plan for an unlimited WiFi internet subscription. Here are the details: Unlimited data use. People who purchase daily, weekly, or monthly tickets will continue to be restricted if they use a lot of data. e.g. watching videos on YouTubeRead More →
After 10 years of frustration, we finally have a super-fast internet connection to the outside world through Vianet. It’s like we’ve gone from dial-up to fibre! (a dedicated, bidirectional 100Mbps connection for the geeks out there)Read More →
Bare Oaks is considering installing a dedicated fibre-optic internet feed. That would provide speeds of more than 1,000 megabits per second which is more than enough bandwidth for everyone to watch video services like Netflix. But the cost is very high. So before we proceed, we need to make sure that there is enough demand to cover the expense. Please help us by answering a few questions. Take the survey: http://skyclad.me/internetRead More →
