Monday Aug 6Holiday – Rest and Relax
The first Monday in August is generally a holiday all across Ontario but it is not a statutory holiday according to provincial legislation.
The concept of a midsummer holiday in Toronto dates as far back as 1869 when the then council came up with the idea of a summer break. In Toronto, the day is generally called Simcoe Day after John Graves Simcoe the first Lieutenant-Governor of Upper Canada and the founder of Toronto. In most municipalities, it is known as the “August Civic Holiday”.
