This year has been quite the rollercoaster for Bare Oaks, with an unbelievable number of surprise expenses that have left us both frustrated and exhausted. It seems like everything that could break, did break, and often at the most inconvenient times. Here’s a rundown of the unexpected challenges we faced and how we managed to keep our spirits high despite the setbacks.
First, we discovered a pool leak under the concrete deck, which was not only expensive to fix but also time-consuming. Then one of our septic systems decided to give up on us. This was a major issue that required immediate attention, and the costs quickly added up. Just when we thought we had it under control, our trusty pickup truck broke down, leaving us without a reliable vehicle for maintenance and supply runs.
As if that wasn’t enough, our hot water heaters started malfunctioning, leading to cold showers for our guests. Speaking of showers, several of them needed repairs as well, adding to our growing list of expenses. One of our lawn mowers, which we rely on to keep the grounds looking pristine, also decided to call it quits.
The hot tub, a favorite among our guests, developed issues that required costly repairs. That is still ongoing but it should be finished in the next few weeks. But it will need approval from York Regional health before we can reopen.
One of saunas, another popular amenity, needed repairs, and the septic pump-out trailer, essential for trailer pump-outs, also broke down. To top it all off, a massive tree in a difficult area threatened to cause damage to nearby trailers so we had to spend thousands of dollars on professional removal services. Each of these issues came with its own set of challenges and expenses, making this year one for the books.
Despite these setbacks, we’ve managed to keep things running relatively smoothly, thanks to the hard work and dedication of our team. We’ve learned a lot about resilience and the importance of being prepared for the unexpected. While this year has been tough, it’s also brought us closer together as a team and reminded us of the importance of community and perseverance.
Here’s to hoping for a smoother year ahead, with fewer surprises and more opportunities to create wonderful memories for our members and visitors. Thank you for sticking with us through it all, and we look forward to welcoming you back soon!
