The following article was printed in the Spring 2008 issue of Going Natural magazine: Is Naturism more than recreation? In recent years, naturism has been widely described as nude recreation. The Naturist Society’s motto is “Body acceptance is the idea, nude recreation is the way.” The R in AANR stands for recreation. The big pan-American event of the year is Nude Recreation Week in July. Even the International Naturist Federation tells first-time visitors that “nude recreation is a great way to unwind and get back to basics.” Of the associations well-known in Canada, only the FCN and FQN don’t relegate naturism to mere recreation. Firewood often contains insects and plant diseases. People who bring firewood from home may accidentally spread those diseases that threaten the health of our forest. The Asian Longhorned Beetle and Emerald Ash Borer are of particular concern. They are both recent arrivals to Canada and without natural controls here. To prevent infestation and on the advice of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) we have implemented a ban on firewood from outside the park. No firewood of any kind may be brought onto the Bare Oaks property. No standing tree, whether alive or dead, can be cut without permission. Firewood that has been cut on ourRead More →

OK, the water is still a bit cold since there hasn’t been enough sun for the solar heater to do it’s job. That didn’t stop Dean from being first in the pool on May 10. (as usual!) The picture above is Steve who was the 2nd person in the pool. Nobody had a camera handy when Dean went in the pool. He was so eager to get into that clean but frigid water that the camera wasn’t ready.Read More →

Photo by tanakawho The summer water system is now working so all trailers now have access to running water. The toilets and showers in Beckett Circle are not yet functional. As soon as they are cleaned and tested, they will also be opened. Although our water is filtered and chlorinated, we do not meet the Ontario Ministry of the Environment’s standards for drinking water. The York Region Health Inspector tested our water in March 2007 and told us that we met regulation 252 because he believed that we were a trailer park or campground with less than five service connections. However, because we are a campgroundRead More →

Bare Oaks will be exhibiting Friday through Sunday at the Green Living Show in the Direct Energy Centre (at the CNE) in Toronto. For nearly a century, respect for the environment has been one of the core principles of naturism. In fact, you could say that naturists are the original environmentalists! So it seem to make perfect sense that those who attend the Green Living Show might be interested in naturism. For existing naturists, it is a great place to get ideas for living a more environmentally-friendly life. If you wish to attend the show, here are some places you can go to get aRead More →

The yearly Bare Oaks spring flood is on. With the warmer weather comes the runoff through the Black River and Harrison Creek. The unusually high amount of snowfall this year has created some record flooding. Yesterday, the water was running over parts of Kennedy Road and Queensville Sideroad had to be closed because some much water was flowing over it. If you are planning on visiting Bare Oaks in the next while, please be careful. If you are traveling at night, you may not see the water on the road until you are in it. Access to the back of Bare Oaks (Beckett Circle) isRead More →
