This week’s episode of Murdoch Mysteries on CBC involved a “naturist colony”. Murdoch Mysteries is a drama, currently set in 1900, that revolves around Detective William Murdoch of the Toronto Constabulary who investigates murder using forensic techniques of the time. (think CSI from 100 years ago) The show is currently in its 6th season. While 1900 is a bit early for naturism in Canada, it is not completely out of the realm of possibility. This year, Bare Oaks Family Naturist Park is introducing a new event: a group trip to France! We have partnered with one of our members, Pauline from Nakations.ca, to organize a fun and affordable naturist vacation to France. While the modern naturist movement is generally accepted to have started in Germany, it was France that perfected the large scale naturist resort. The combination of warm southern France, beaches on the ocean, and the French passion for vacationing naturally combined to create massive naturist resorts. The oldest of these resorts is the Centre Helio Marin Montalivet – best known as the CHM Montalivet. With over 3,000Read More →

From our new webpage at: http://www.bareoaks.ca/index.php/en/about-naturism/ethical-naturism.html Nudist vs Naturist Which term is used depends partially on where you are. In Europe, the term “naturist” is used almost exclusively while “nudist” is often derogatory. In the United States, most people who attend clubs call themselves nudists because they belong to the American Association for Nude Recreation (AANR) who uses the term “nudist”. Americans who go to free beaches tend to prefer to identify themselves as “naturists” because historically, the Naturist Society (TNS) has been the biggest defender of free beaches in the United States. In Canada, the official naturist organizations are called the Federation of Canadian Naturists (FCN) andRead More →
